First settled in 1638 under the name Muddy Waters hamlet as a farm once owned by Judge Samuel Sewall. Sewall is famous for being a leading judge during the Salem Witch Trials. Until being incorporated in 1705, Brookline was considered to be part of Boston. The name Brookline derives from the two brooks that border the north and south parts of the town.
What Brookline is known for…
Before European settlements came to Brookline, the Massachusett Algonquian tribe covered the area. The first settlers came in 1638 and settled outside of Boston. Most of Brookline’s history deals with borders of cities and towns. The rivers that border Brookline are Smelt Brook to the North and Muddy River to the South. In the early 1870’s Boston tried to annex nearby cities and towns namely Brighton and Brookline. After successfully acquiring Brighton, Brookline refused and spawned the Boston Brookline Annexation Debate of 1873. While Boston voted 6291-1484 in favor of the annexation, it needed approval from Brookline who voted in favor of remaining independent. Neighboring towns Hyde Park and West Roxbury, were both annexed by Boston within the next thirty years.
Since then Brookline has undergone major expansion. Brookline has maintained its own image and boasts both urban and suburban housing and is also home to a vast array of types of people and social classes and is even home to the first country club in the nation.

Brookline Residents Call American Alarm to Build A Custom Alarm System For Their Pets
Once again the American Alarm approach to installing custom alarm systems (instead of the one size fits all approach) has proven true value. Many people who have pets feel consider them part of the family. Such is the case with these Brookline customers. The owners installed an integrated home security and fire alarm system to protect their two cats while they were at work. They recognized that these two members of their family would not be able to fend for themselves in case of an emergency. A full perimeter system (window and door contacts) was installed with the sirens only sounding in the event of a fire. This was at the customers request to prevent panicking the cats unnecessarily.
